The Central Ontario Analytical Laboratory in Orillia will be offering a new service for Dorset. Water samples will now be picked up in Dorset the third Wednesday of every month. If anyone is interested they should contact the Central Ontario Analytical Laboratory at 326-8285 or www.coalab.ca to get set up. Samples are to be delivered to the Johnson Establishment before 10 a.m. the third Wednesday of the month.

Dorset Pitch-In Day takes place on Saturday, May 3, meeting at the Dorset Recreation Centre for litter cleanup supplies at 10 a.m. This is a great opportunity to help tidy up the village in this popular litter cleanup community activity. If you would like to pitch in or would like more information call the recreation centre at 766-9968.

There will be a bead class at the Dorset Recreation Centre on Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. with Marlene Karys of Big Bead, Huntsville. To find out more or to register call the recreation centre at 766-9968.

Sherry Welsh is on a mission. She started walking on April 5 from the Backus Heritage Conservation Area and will finish her walk on May 9 at Lions Camp Dorset. The walk is in aid of Lions Camp Dorset, a retreat in Dorset for dialysis patients, and has been named “Karen’s Quest” in honour of Welsh’s late sister Karen.

Camp Dorset is sponsored by Lions clubs in Ontario and Welsh is a member of the South Brant Lions Club. Sherry has been greeted almost every day by club representatives along the route.

Would you like to donate to Karen’s Quest? It does not have to be money. Also being accepted are pop cans, wine bottles, beer bottles and spirit bottles.

All are encouraged to come out and welcome Sherry to Dorset. The last leg of the walk is from Dorset to Lions Camp Dorset on May 9 so if you feel like walking and showing your support, please join in.

The Dorset Recreation Centre has a summer employment opportunity for the Dorset Day Camp program. Day camp runs for nine weeks in the summer, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is a great job for students interested in working with children.

The 29th annual Dorset volunteer fire department pig roast is on Saturday, May 24 and tickets are $30 per person. Please call Donna Keul at 766-9253 to reserve tickets.
