The Huntsville High School junior and senior girls’ soccer teams opened their season April 17 by hosting an indoor tournament at the Jack Bionda Arena.
The juniors started the tournament off with an early morning game against Almaguin Secondary School. The Hoyas came out victorious with a score of 3-0. Natalie Connell, Kim Demaine, and Robin Koch scored Huntsville goals. Their second game was against Park School from Orillia. A win for the Hoyas came with a 2-1 score. Goals were scored by Koch and Alex Reid.
The juniors’ third and final game was against a fairly evenly-matched team from North Bay, West Ferris. Both teams had won their first two games, which meant the winner of this game would be the tournament champions.
The Huntsville squad got an early goal from Reid and they were able to hold this score to win the match and the championship by a score of 1-0.
The senior Hoyas opened their tournament play against Almaguin. They won this game 1-0 with the goal coming from Jessica Baumhour.
They were matched up against Park school for their second game. Goals from Baumhour and Meg Knapton resulted in a 2-0 victory for Huntsville.
The senior girls came on strong in their final game of the tournament and easily defeated Parry Sound with a 5-0 score. Hoya goals came from Carly Litchfield (2), Shanda Koch (2) and Karla Markle.
