The Muskoka Aquatic Club (MUSAC) held its second annual Spring Sprint Invitational swim meet on April 5 and 6.
MUSAC was host to 110 swimmers from around the region and was represented by 21 of its own swimmers ranging from age nine to 17. The team was led by coaches Greg Rasmussen and Tracy Stone and continued to see many personal best times and top-three medal finishes. Both Emily Hubert, 9, and Emily Scott, 10, swam six races and achieved four new personal bests. Sophia Prymak, 9, dropped 35 seconds in the 200 m freestyle for a new time of 3:31.30. Ten-year-old Melinda Hubert swam six personal bests winning five golds and one silver medal. Ten-year-old Quinn Scarlett swam to second-place finishes in five of his six races and dropped one minute and 26 seconds on his 200 m freestyle.
The 11 and 12-year-old girls’ category had six MUSAC swimmers, all 11 years of age. Cecily Dawson swam in her first competitive meet, completing six races with impressive times. Hailey Morris dropped three seconds in her 100 m breaststroke for a new personal best and won a silver medal.
Hannah Zielonko had a great meet, swimming to six new personal best times and
dropping a total of 20 seconds. Megan Vandermolen also swam six personal bests and won a bronze medal in the 100 m backstroke. Kristy Robertson swam four out of six personal bests and won a bronze medal in the 50 m freestyle. Emma Barnes had top-two finishes in five of her six races winning two gold medals and three silver.
MacGregor Tannahill, 11, dropped a combined total of 71 seconds, swimming to five personal best times in five races. Liam Prymak, 12, and Shawn Donaldson, 12, had a great weekend. Both had top-three finishes in all of their races with Prymak bringing in two gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
Donaldson won four gold and two silver medals, swam six out of six personal best times and dropped a total of 29 seconds.
Biata Kerr, 13, swam six races, achieving new best times in all and winning a bronze medal in the 200 m freestyle. Fourteen-year-old Katya Zielonko swam three races and dropped 10 seconds in her 200 m freestyle for a new time of 2:47.72.
Four swimmers represented the 15 and over girls. Cailagh Evers, 17, had top-three finishes in all her races and four personal best times, dropping a total of 11 seconds. She won three gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Melissa Bryant, 17, swam five races and achieved personal bests in all. Sarah Kamachi, 15, swam three races, all with top-10 finishes. Sontauna Rapsch, 15, dropped nine seconds in the 100 m breaststroke for a new time of 1:47.30.
Corey Helie-Masters, 16, had a fantastic weekend swimming to first-place finishes in all of his six races.
Head coach Mark Shivers and Veronica Medon were in Montreal at the Canadian Olympic team trials for the week.
Noah Prymak and Whitney Ann Donaldson, who were invited to attend a training clinic, joined them on April 5-6. All swimmers were back in the Huntsville and Bracebridge pools Monday. They are gearing up for the Team Champs Swim Meet in Brantford on April 18 to 20.
