Port Sydney News

Hi everyone. It has been a while since I have had news.  My family is having a particularly stressful year with four deaths in our family in less than six weeks. Athanasius, my cat, is now ill due to my stress and I send get well wishes to him.

A happy ninth birthday to Wes DeCaro, a very special young friend, on April 1.

A happy belated birthday to Dan Vanderveer on his 50th birthday. We celebrated his birthday Feb. 16 at the home of Jamie Vanderveer with about 50 guests attending.

After a one-year break Port Sydney parks and recreation are planning to once again organize the annual community-wide yard sale. One change that should be noted by those who have participated in the past is the date. This year’s event will be held on the last Saturday in May, May 31.

Other than the change in date the format will be much the same as in past years. The parks and recreation committee will organize and advertise this event. This will involve coordinating an estimated 50 or more yard sales as well as events offered by local Port Sydney businesses and service clubs. Parks and recreation will be posting signs and arrows to guide people to sale locations as well as arranging for maps that show the location of the yard sales that day. These maps will be distributed at the main entrances to the village. The advertising campaign will include local radio as well as newspaper ads.

The fee to be a part of this event is $25, which will go toward the further refurbishing of the Port Sydney Community Hall. A number of upgrades to the hall have been carried out in recent years, but there are still numerous other projects to undertake.

In addition to the regular yard sales any person, organization or business interested in running a special event on the day of the yard sale, please come to a brief meeting at the Port Sydney Hall on Wednesday, April 2 at 6:30 p.m. or contact Cindy at pspr@live.com.

That’s all for this week and please send your news to portsydneynews @hotmail.com.
