Welcome to our 2008 season. Once again a new year has come and our season is fast approaching. The Huntsville Minor Ball Association (HMBA) welcomes children of all ages. T-ball is for children born in 2003 and 2004.
For the t-ball children we use a blast ball base. This base has a small horn inside, which gives the children an incentive to run to first base.
Rookie children are those born between 1999 to 2002. At this level we introduce the children to a pitching machine.
The balls are thrown by the pitching machine at a slow but steady pace. Also in this level children, work on their throwing and catching techniques, as well as running bases.
Mosquito-level players are children born in 1997 and 1998. In this particular level the children no longer use a pitching machine, but an actual pitcher. Throughout the season the children will work on their pitching, catching, throwing and base running.
Peewee up to midget kids are those born between 1992 and 1995. At this level children have the option of a pitching mound.
All games are on Wednesday nights, with t-ball and rookie starting at 5:30 p.m. and mosquito and peewee starting at 7 p.m.
Our season will begin on May 21 with our bat and field night. This night gives the coaches the opportunity to see what level each child plays at. From there the teams are put together, based on children from all different levels. Registration is also available that night at the diamonds.
May 28 will be a practice night and to meet your coach. June 4 will be our first game night. Please put July 2 on your calendar, as it has been selected for our picture night.
Our registrations will be held at the Huntsville Place Mall, April 5, April 19 and May 5.
The cost of registration is $60, with family rates available. Registration includes shirts, team pictures, awards, cost of games, practices, umpires, and a tournament with a year-end barbecue.
Coaches and umpires are needed this year. If anyone would be interested, please contact us.
Again this year we will be having indoor practices, for the older children starting in April, so come out and have some fun. Information on dates, times and location will be available in April.
This year we will be having mostiquo and peewee select teams.
More information will be available in April. Space is provided on our registration form where you may indicate if your child is interested in one of the select teams.
In 2007, our select mosquito team played in Sundridge. As well, we hosted Sundridge Lions here in Huntsville.
This year HMBA will be having a spring clinic featuring the head coach of Durham College, Sam Dempster. This will be held on April 19 at Riverside School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please register at 788-9182 or 789-2237. This clinic is for children nine years and older.
