First let me point out I am not, nor have I ever been, a fan of Mr. Mike Greaves.
I do, though, firmly believe in the old adage, “forgive and forget.”
In this regard I firmly believe Toronto lawyer Karl Jaffary has really overstepped his boundaries. I would really like to know just what ax he’s trying to grind.
First his letter to the Forester on Jan. 30. He did points out his, and his opinion only, that Mike Greaves has done wrong, and that he should apologize to the complainant. Case closed.
Then Orillia lawyer Christie points out flaws in the Jaffary statement, and the OMB appears to also agree with Greaves’ lawyer: “the act does not apply to standing committees of council.” Two different legal opinions, and the opinion of the governing body, so for the record, Mike Greaves should just apologize to the complainant for whatever the complainant wanted to hear. Problem solved, case over, done!
My questions are, who is the complainant? Is he a resident of Huntsville? If he doesn’t want whatever Mr. Greaves’ proposal is in his neighbourhood, did he go to council to make his objections?
Not so fast, people, now here comes Mr. Jaffary again on Feb. 27, telling Mr. Greaves he has filed the paperwork with the District court, and for a mere apology, and $4,000 and presto, he will make this fiasco go away. Mr. Jaffary, just what does your client want Mr. Greaves to apologize for? How was he wronged?
Well, Mr. Greaves, this is a lot of B.S. You now have to carry through with the case against you. I personally prefer the Orillia legal advice, which seems to be backed up by the OMB. Just maybe the wheels of justice in Muskoka will set the record straight, and who knows, even have the Toronto firm play you your costs. It really appears to be a no brainer. Not often does the general public back politicians in their bad times but, Mr. Greaves, I think you have more behind you and less against you. Good luck.
