Huntsville Nature Club
Although there is still quite a lot snow still on the ground, there are definitely signs that spring is just around the corner. Birds that are late-winter nesters, including ravens and gray jays, have been busy building nests since the end of February, and woodpeckers have begun drumming to mark their nesting territory. Some returning migrants such as American crows and European starlings have also arrived in the last several weeks. Robins
can’t be too far away! To keep up with bird sightings in our
area, or to record a sighting, check out the Muskoka Bird Board at www.b2g3.com/boards/ board.cgi?user=MuskokaBird
Board.
The club’s guest speaker on Monday, March 31 will be Rob Stimpson, a local professional photographer (www.robstimpson.com). Rob recently had the fabulous opportunity to visit the Northwest Passage and the Greenland coast, and will share a spectacular photographic journey through some of the most remote landscape in Canada’s High Arctic and coastal villages of Western Greenland. Rob spoke to the club in 2005 regarding his odyssey to Antarctica, which was well received by members and who are now eagerly awaiting tales from the other pole. Guests are welcome to join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening exploring this harsh but beautiful environment.
The Huntsville Nature Club meets on the last Monday of every month at Club 55 in the town hall at 7 p.m. and guests are always welcome. A voluntary donation of $2 would be appreciated.
