After a one-year break Port Sydney parks and recreation is planning to once again organize the annual community-wide yard sale. One change that should be noted by those who have participated in the past is the date. This year’s event will be held on the last Saturday in May, May 31.
Other than the change in date the format will be much the same as in past years. The parks and recreation committee will organize and advertise this event. This will involve coordinating an estimated 50 or more yard sales as well as events offered by local Port Sydney businesses and service clubs. Parks and recreation will be posting signs and arrows to guide people to sale locations as well as arranging for maps that show the location of the yard sales that day. These maps will be distributed at the main entrances to the village. The advertising campaign will include local radio as well as newspaper ads. The fee to be a part of this event is $25, which goes toward the further refurbishing of the Port Sydney community hall. A number of upgrades to the hall have been carried out in recent years, but there are still numerous other projects to undertake.
Your help by taking part contributes to the ongoing improvement to the hall. In addition to the regular yard sales any person, organization or business interested in running a special event on the day of the yard sale please come to a brief meeting at the Port Sydney Hall on Wednesday, April at 6:30 p.m. or contact Cindy at pspr@live.com.
Congratulations go out to Stan and Marilyn Beirness on the arrival of their granddaughter Tarrah Al Soufi, born on March 5. Proud parents are Leanne and Louis and her sister is Anthea.
Round and square dance will be held on April 26 at 7 p.m. for $5 at Club 55 in Huntsville. Music by Grenville Hall and Friends, and everyone is welcome.
