The Huntsville Community Choir and the Almaguin Choral Society are once more joining forces to bring a night of hope-filled gospel music to the Algonquin Theatre. It has been somewhat of a tradition between these two groups that each spring they join forces to provide us with an evening of good old soul-lifting gospel music. This year is no exception.
On Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. both choirs join in unison once again to present We Sing for Joy, a Gospel Celebration. A second concert will take place in Powassan on Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m.
The show will start with each choir presenting a selection of gospel/spiritual pieces and will culminate in the two choirs coming together for a final selection of material en masse, 100 voices strong.
This is the group’s first joint presentation at the Algonquin Theatre and promises to be an evening of uplifting spirit and rejuvenation. Just what we need to chase the last dark clouds of winter away.
As is the Huntsville choir’s objective, this year’s concert will continue to highlight local talent, with the inclusion of instrumental background provided by members of Laganza. Under the musical direction of Sherrisse Stevens the choir will also feature her in a solo piece, Death Came a Knockin, arranged by local musician Sarah Spring and featuring Papa John on slide guitar.
Prepare for an evening of hand clapping, food stomping enjoyment, deep, penetrating harmonies, thunderous praises to the glory and beauty that surrounds us, and thanks to the creator of it all. Why, at the end of it, you’ll hardly remember winter at all.
We sing for Joy, Algonquin Theatre, April 4, 7:30 p.m. Tickets available at the box office. Come out for a great musical evening.
