Dwight News

The Algonquin Snowmobile Club invites you to their season-ending potluck dinner at Blue Spruce Inn tomorrow, March 27 at 7 p.m. Bring your best dish and trail stories. This is election year for the snowmobile club. Anyone wanting information on positions needing to be filled, please contact Scott Hayden or Marlene Kyle.

Daffodils will soon be arriving at the library. Come in, order a bunch and help the Canadian Cancer Society.

The annual euchre tournament to aid the Canadian Cancer Society will be at the Lakeview Seniors’ Hall on Tuesday, April 8 beginning at 7 p.m. There will be refreshments and prizes. Admission is $5.

The Dwight Lions Club will host their annual turkey dinner at the community centre on Saturday, April 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be homemade pie for dessert donated by the Dwight Women’s Institute. All proceeds from this dinner will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Remember, all money collected in our area goes to transport cancer patients to treatment centres. Last year 223 clients were driven to various centres. Volunteer drivers made 352 trips totalling 14,825 kilometres at a cost of $42,933.61.

Considering the price of gasoline, more cash will be needed this year, so please give generously when your canvasser calls on you, and try to attend the events in Dwight to help the Lions and the seniors raise their donations to the Cancer Society.

The next meeting of the book club will be at the library on Tuesday, April 15 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The book to be discussed is The Girls by Lori Lansens. Everyone is welcome at the book club.

Pauline Oke and I would like to wish a happy birthday to our daughters, Debbie Hall and Paula Brundia, who were both April Fool babies.

Tuesday night euchre results: women’s first, Marnie Brethour; second, Fran Gower; men’s first, Dennis Hopper; second, Al McMullen; lone hands, Huguette Boutin; 50/50 draw, Paul Jensen and Guy Boutin.
