Congratulations to Linda Ainslie and Mike Baum, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day in Hawaii. How romantic can you get!

Don’t forget the Dorset Snowball wrap-up celebration for all Snowball volunteers on Wednesday, March 26 at the recreation centre at 6 p.m. For more information please call the recreation centre at 766-9968.

The next Dorset men’s breakfast will be held at the Dorset Seniors’ Club on Hwy. 117 on Saturday, March 29 starting at 8:30 a.m. The cost for the breakfast is $6. For more information contact Jim Schell at 766-2373.

Also on March 29, I challenge all Dorset residents to take part in the global movement called Earth Hour. What a great idea. The key objective is to engage as many households, communities and businesses as possible to turn their lights out for one hour on March 29 from 7 to 8 p.m. to show that together, our small actions can make a difference to global warming. I’m in.

Tickets are now available for the fifth annual evening of Words, Music, Art and Wine to be held at the Dorset Recreation Centre on Friday, April 11. The walkabout starts at 6:30 p.m. and readings and music starts at 7 p.m. This is a wonderful evening featuring local writers, artists and musicians. Muskoka Lakes Winery will be showcasing their unique wines and refreshments will be provided by Robinson’s General Store.

The docket of musicians and writers is filled but there is still room for artists who wish to display one or two pieces. Call the recreation centre for more information.

There is help available to those in Dorset who are seniors, for people who are ill and those with disabilities and caregivers. If you can’t get out, are not great at cooking or cooking is a problem for you, you can get help.
