Getting geared up for summer

Here at Muskoka Futures we are looking to summer already, not because we are sick and tired of snow, nor because we have great things planned. But more because it is a busy time that flies by and means prosperity for many. We just want to remind you to plan properly. Assess what you truly need from inventory, cash flow, staffing, promotion and of course customer service.

As the season gets closer and closer many businesses are now looking, or have already been looking for staff.  The key to any great business is having great frontline staff.

Last month our Muskoka Community Initiative (MCI) fund supported the Muskoka Job Fair committee as they hosted job fairs in Bracebridge and Huntsville, where hundreds of people turned up and great jobs were posted. Also on hand were potential employers with booths to answer questions, recruit potential employees and some even conducted on the spot interviews.

In a market where labour is quickly going to become a crisis situation and options available to youth are more and more plentiful, this type of event is going to become increasingly vital.

In addition to supporting the job fairs, the MCI fund will also be helping the Local Training and Adjustment Board for Muskoka Nippising Parry Sound to host an Explore the Trades Day on April 28 at the Bracebridge Memorial Arena. This day will be geared to students looking to enter a skilled trade. Students will be bussed in from the area high schools to take advantage of this great opportunity.

Employees, old and young, get yourself out there and find the right fit for you.  Don’t get sucked in by the glitz and glamour and hold out for that perfect job. It may take years to find the Monday to Friday, full time, year round, high-paying, well benefited job in our very seasonal, very tourism oriented job; in the meantime though, expose yourself to the world of options, broaden your experience and contribute.
