Too bad municipal elections are so far away
Mar 19, 2008

Isn’t it just great to hear our town’s budget situation is so grim? It sounds like a great time to give our councillors the 50 to 67 per cent pay hike they so righteously deserve.

Do the right thing and forget any grotesque pay increases that the taxpayers of Huntsville can’t afford. Just maybe we should be implementing a bonus system instead of salary increases. Bonuses could be directly tied to councillors’ performance of managing and running the town’s tasks and bringing in balanced budgets.

Budgets need to be held to inflation and cost of living rates. Sounds fair to me. If more time were spent managing the town’s finances and less time bickering and in-house fighting, maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.

I think we’re all tired of hearing excuses about under-budgeted salaries, clerical mistakes and improper forecasting.

Oh yeah, let’s spend more money we don’t have and hire an adjudicator to deal with the matter of council’s salaries: real smart.

Thank God previous councils had kept the reserve fund high enough that this council can continue to rob it blind. I sure wish municipal elections were closer. We need to rectify the huge mistake we made at the polls last time!
