John Allan Reid passed away at the Muskoka Landing on March 11, 2008 one week before his 82nd birthday. John Reid was born March 18, 1926 in Dungannon Township, Bancroft ,Ontario.

John Reid was the oldest son of John Wesley Reid and Minnie Margaruite Reid (Lindsay) of Bancroft. They had 13 children. His family moved to Huntsville when John was two years old, where they had a farm in Brunel Township. John attended #5 Brunel School.

At the age of nine John began working at logging with his Dad. John joined the army at age 16 and remained in the army until 1945.

Upon his return he met Maxine Lane and they were married on Dec. 24, 1949.

They purchased a home in Dwight in 1950 where they have lived for 57 years. John worked for Hubbel and Son Lumber for many years doing logging in the bush and working in the sawmill. John then went to work for the Department of Highways for 30 years. He was a road supervisor and built many of the roads in and around Muskoka, Haliburton, Bancroft and Parry Sound.

Once retired he opened High Tundra Kennels and raised Siberian Huskies. John was well known for his dog sledding business at area resorts and day-tripping and overnight camping trips into Algonquin Park.

His Siberian Huskies won many awards and were purchased by people all over the world.

John is survived by his loving wife Maxine , daughters Glenda Quackenbush, Maxine Reid Junior, Roxanne Wheeler and son Peter Reid, his grandchildren Nathan, Jenny, Julie, Jason, Andrew, Robbie, Tonya, Larry and Michael and great-grandchildren Holly and Skyler. He is predeceased by his son John-Gary Reid.

Family and friends gathered for the service, conducted by Pastor William Fynney, at Mitchell Funeral Home on March 13, 2008.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support at this very sad time. John will always be remembered as a loving husband and father, wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather and sadly missed by all who knew him.
