Huntsville Forester
Reel Alternatives film was in bad taste
Mar 12, 2008

By bringing the film Death at a Funeral to town, Reel Alternatives certainly endangered the fine reputation built up over the years. For anyone looking for an evening of common trash, this is a good way to spend it.

The article in the Forester, “Hilarious chaos erupts in Death at a Funeral,” did nothing to prepare us for what we were to see. We are old-fashioned enough to still be seriously offended by the use of the “f” word, which was bantered around constantly throughout the movie.

In reading the write-up, I note it is rated 14A. In future we will know that is something any decent person needs to avoid. Rob Saunders had mentioned prior to the showing that Mitchell’s Funeral Home was sponsoring the show. One can only imagine how embarrassed Colleen Mitchell must have been.

Thankfully we had been privileged to see our local high school’s fantastic production of Grease, and the very powerful movie Amazing Grace at St. Andrew’s recently, both in keeping with what is expected in Huntsville. Whoever is responsible for choosing Death at a Funeral should hang their head in shame.
