MUSAC sends three to provincials
Mar 12, 2008

The Muskoka Aquatic Club (MUSAC) sent three swimmers to the junior provincial championships on Feb. 28. The four-day meet was held at the Canada Games Complex in London, Ontario and was host to 1,000 of the province’s best junior qualifying athletes.

Representing MUSAC were 10-year-old Melinda Hubert, Whitney Anne Donaldson and Noah Prymak, both 13. Hubert swam four races and achieved four personal best times.

This was her first provincial championship and she competed against 30 girls in her age group.

She dropped a total of 21 seconds and swam to top-13 place finishes in all of her races. In the 50 m butterfly, Hubert raced to a bronze-medal finish with a time of 37.92 seconds.

Donaldson swam in the 13-year-old age group with approximately 50 other competitors. Swimming four races, she achieved three new personal best times. Donaldson had top-10 finishes in the 100 m and 200 m breaststroke. Her time of 1:18.98 in the 100 m breaststroke qualified her for age group nationals.

Prymak swam five races with three new personal bests. Swimming against 40 boys in his 13-year-old age group, he had top-eight place finishes in all of his races. He swam to a fifth-place finish in the 100 m butterfly with a time of 1:05.86 and dropped three seconds in the 200 m butterfly for a new time of 2:28.88.

Fellow qualifying teammates Veronica Medon and Corey Helie Master did not attend the meet. Medon is still in full-focused training for the Olympic trials next month, while Helie Masters was at the provincial high school championships for nordic skiing.

MUSAC has five swimmers in Ft. Lauderdale this week for spring outdoor training. DonaldsonĀ  and Prymak have been joined by Sarah Graham, Medon and Cailagh Evers for a week-long training camp.
