Stouffville Spirit goaltender Trevor O’Neill turned aside 33 of 34 shots in downing the Huntsville Muskoka Otters Thursday night and knotting their Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League’s North Division semifinal at two games each.
Rob Waddell’s shorthanded marker at the 17:41 mark of the third was the only goal to beat O’Neill, who was named first star for his efforts.
Not to be outdone, Huntsville goalie Jeff Dawson faced 40 Stouffville shots, the most he has faced this season, stopping 36.
The game was 1-0 Stouffville for the first two periods until the third when the Spirit exploded for three unanswered goals.
The final period turned out to be expcetionally rough, as both teams were assessed a total of 88 minutes in penalties, including eight game misconducts.
The series returns to Huntsville tonight at 7:30 p.m. as the two teams meet at the Jack Bionda Arena for Game 5.
