Call them the Comeback Kids.
For the second straight game, the Huntsville Muskoka Otters rallied from a late deficit to beat the Stouffville Spirit in their Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League’s North Division semifinal series.
The Otters, backed by 608 fans at the Jack Bionda Arena, scored four straight goals including three in the final three minutes, to beat the Spirit 6-3 and take a 2-1 games lead in the series.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first period, with Stouffville emerging from the first 20 minutes with a 3-2 lead.
However, the Otters defence held the Spirit’s shooters to 18 shots over the final 40 minutes, while Huntsville forwards peppered 29 pucks at the Stouffville net during last two periods.
Josh Vatri had a big game with three points, including the Otters’ first goal of the game. He added his second goal of the game in the middle period on his way to earning first-star honours.
Jeremy Whelan had two goals, including one of his team’s two empty-net goals; the other going to Rob Waddell.
Ron Rogers, who was named the game’s second star, had the other Huntsville goal.
Goalie Jeff Dawson made 26 saves for the win.
Game 4 in the series goes Thursday night in Stouffville. The fifth and possibly deciding game is slated for Friday night in Huntsville.
In the other divisional semifinal, Aurora leads Newmarket three games to one.
