The death occurred of Horst Adolf Friedrich Schmidt, 71, on Feb. 22, 2008 in Huntsville.

The deceased was born in Kampen, Germany on Jan. 30, 1937, the son of Olga and Friedrich Schmidt. He married Ruth Anne Schmidt on Dec. 12, 1980 in Huntsville.

Mr. Schmidt is survived by one son and three daughters, Kelly and Mike Van Drunen of Michigan, Julie Schuster and Kevin Carstairs of Toronto, Michael and Cathy Downs of Ottawa, Jennifer and Corey McKeown of Airdrie.

Mr. Schmidt is also survived by grandchildren Garret, Kurtis, Alicia, Megan, Tyler, Molly and 10 of 13 brothers and sisters in Germany.

Mr. Schmidt was an interior decorator. He was a member of the Muskoka Sport and Social Club.

Funeral service was conducted by Reverend John McTavish of Huntsville at Billingsley Funeral Home on Feb. 26, 2008.

Memorial gifts to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Huntsville Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
