Riverside takes early lead in ski racing series

HERE WE GO: Alec Gibson of Spruce Glen Public School is off and skiing in the first leg of the Muskoka elementary school cross-country ski race, held Thursday at Arrowhead Provincial Park.

More than 245 youngsters competed in the 2008 Muskoka elementary schools cross-country ski race, held last Thursday at Arrowhead Provincial Park.

Riverside Public School has taken the early points lead in this two-race series. Spruce Glen brought home the most medals from the first leg of the series.

Here are the top three skiers in each division in order of finish:

Boys’ Grades 1 to 2 2 km. – Nick Lavigne, Riverside, 0:09:02.0; Cole Earl, Spruce Glen, 0:09:58.0, Quinton Strood, Huntsville PS, 0:11:14.0.

Girls’ Grades 1 to 2, 2 km – Alexa Wilson, Montessori, 0:12:01.0; Lindsay Young, Muskoka Christian,  0:12:10.0; Emma Clendenan, Muskoka Christian,   0:12:19.0.  

Boys’ Grades 3 to 4, 2 km – Dalton Boothby, Tawingo, 0:07:23.0; Nathan Johnstone, Tawingo, 0:07:27.0; Dillon Keay, Spruce Glen, 0:08:09.0.

Girls’ Grade 3 to 4 2 km –  Sarah Cowan, Riverside, 0:08:08.0; Marina Tusz,  Spruce Glen, 0:08:35.0; Megan Mikkail, Spruce Glen, 0:09:58.0.

Boys’ Grades 5 to 6 3.5 km – Ethan Stevens, Riverside,  0:11:52.0;  Tyler Young, Muskoka Christian, 0:13:02.0; Jackson Wood, Monck, 0:13:56.0.

Girls’ Grades 5 to 6 3.5 km –  Claire Tusz, Spruce Glen, 0:11:51.0; Emily Jones, Huntsville PS, 0:12:01.0; Shayna Herr, Near North,  0:12:15.0.

Boys’ Grades 7 to 8 5 km –  Ryan Atwood, Spruce Glen,  0:12:52.0; Gabriel Cluett, Bracebridge PS,  0:14:10.0; Daniel Latimer, Near North, 0:14:52.0.
