Friends and relatives from all across the country gathered at Branch 232 on July 22 to help Bernie and Bernice Greenfield celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Congratulations and best wishes for many years to come.
The weather was bright, sunny and surprisingly temperate on July 21 as the Colours of Muskoka Pipes and Drums, a combination of the Cameron of Lochiel and the Bracebridge Legion Branch 161 pipe bands, took to the field at the Orillia Scottish Festival. Although short on numbers the group was long on ability and turned in solid performances for both the Parade of the Pipers and a musical exhibition at the Orillia Legion.
In the solo competitions Robert Locke won first place in the Advanced Piping Slow Air category as well as the Harvey Holt Memorial Trophy for first place in the Advanced Piping March category. The band enjoyed a lovely lunch furnished by the Branch 232 Ladies Auxiliary, in the shade and comfort of the motorhome furnished by Phil Merson and wife Pat. All in all it was a great day for everyone involved.
Every Monday is bid euchre night at the branch begining at 7 p.m., and everyone is welcome to participate. Last week’s winner was Jane Skerritt.
Flo Feldman was second and Ted Skerritt was third. This week it was Lisa Merritt followed by Marg Grant and Fred Frey.
The $4 Friday lunch at the branch on July 27 will offer a choice of beef barley soup and chicken caeser salad or a BLT with fries. Serving begins at noon and the doors are open to the public.
The Saturday meat rolls continue throughout the summer, every week from 3 to 5 p.m. Please come out and join us for some fun and help support some worthy causes.
Have a great week and see you around the branch.
