Join in on legion’s Canada Day festivities

Every Monday evening at 7 p.m. is euchre time at Branch 232 and everyone is welcome to join in. The winners on June 18 were Edith Wainwright, first; Joe Coulter, second and Blair Crittenden, third.

Another regular event that you don’t want to miss is the $4 Friday lunch at the branch which runs from noon to 2 p.m. each week. Everyone’s welcome to come out and enjoy some great food at a great price. The menu on June 29 will offer a choice of grilled cheese with home-made vegetable soup or brats with fries.

A huge pat on the back goes out to Mrs. Shorn and the Huntsville High School students who have been so faithfully bringing in pop tabs for the wheelchair drive. The tabs from here and many other communities are collected by the Elora Legion, and so far they have been able to provide 719 chairs at a rate of 2 1/2 million tabs per chair. Thank you for efforts and keep up the good work.

The 75th anniversary chairman, comrade Gord Milburn, and Branch 232 extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those who worked so hard to make our anniversary celebrations such a success. There’s an enormous amount of time and effort required to stage a three-day party and keep things running smoothly. While those who contributed are far too numerous to name individually, please be assured that every effort is much appreciated.

Kim Nelson and Glen Emslie were the winners of those beautiful diamond-studded watches provided, at a very generous discount, by Ron Henry Jewelers as prizes in the anniversary raffle. Congratulations.

On July 1 our Canada Day celebration and community beef barbecue will kick off at 12:30 p.m. with clowns and gifts for the children, the pipe band, a D.J. and a beer tent, rain or shine. There will be an absolutely, 100 per cent free beef barbecue dinner with all the trimmings and dessert for anyone and everyone who shows up beginning at 4 p.m. This is Branch 232s gift to our community on our nation’s birthday. Everyone’s welcome to stay and dance the evening away with Double Take in the lounge from 7 to 11 pm. Come be our guest.
