Summer’s not holiday time for cancer society volunteers

Cancer Society
Summer has come early, and with it the risk of skin cancer from our glorious sun. No-one is completely safe from the sun, so we must all take care. Never go out into the sun without protection. Use sunscreen of SPF15 or higher and wear a hat if possible. Contact your Huntsville branch at 789-9433 or pick up brochures and information at the public library.
Due to the generosity of our Huntsville residents our daffodil days and our yearly fundraising campaign in April were both successful. Coming up we will be hosting a barbecue at Independent Grocers over the July holiday weekend.
Next, Tag Day will be on Aug. 18. Your cancer branch is always looking for new ways to raise funds because there is still so much to be done to fill our mandate.
To make cancer history we have commitments to meet, such as our transportation service. During May we transported 23 clients on over 36 trips to various cancer centres. Thirteen drivers drove almost 16,000 kilometres at a cost of nearly $5,000, which we cover with fundraising in our community. So, though it is summer time, your Huntsville volunteers are always working for you.
