Attempted robbery at drug store

The Huntsville OPP is currently investigating an attempted armed robbery at Huntsville’s Hometown IDA Drugstore on Main Street.

Around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the drugstore. The suspect is described as a male caucasian, in his 30s, 5’10”, tall with a slender build. He was wearing a dark blue zip up fleece style sweater, blue jeans, sunglasses, and a mask. The suspect, who was armed with a knife, was unsuccessful in obtaining pharmaceutical drugs from the pharmacist and fled the business on foot.

Youth caught shooting pellet guns

Three youth were arrested on May 10 as a result of shooting pellet guns from a roof on Main Street.

Officers located the youths lying on a roof between Brunel Road and Town Hall. All three were arrested at the scene. The youth cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.  

One youth was charged with failing to comply with a previous probation order. The other two were released to their parents and will take part in the alternative youth of Muskoka judicial measures.

No one was hurt as a result of this careless act.


Two break and enters over weekend

The Huntsville OPP are currently investigating two break and enters that occurred sometime over the past weekend.

On May 9, officers were advised of a break-in to a residence on Bear Cave Road in the Township of Muskoka Lakes. Unknown culprits broke into the rear door of the residence, which is under construction, and removed some tools.

On May 12, police attended a property under construction on Legacy Lane in Huntsville. Culprits broke into the rear entrance of the site and removed about $2,000 worth of copper fittings and ball joints.

Cottage break-ins

Two cottages in the Lake of Bays area have been the target of break and enters.

On May 8, the Huntsville OPP was called to a cottage on Charlie Thompson Road in the Township of Lake of Bays. The owners had returned to their cottage to find that culprits had removed two antique pieces of furniture from their summer residence.

The value of this furniture is estimated to be about $7,000.

On May 9, officers were advised of a break and enter to a cottage on Kenney Road.  Sometime over the winter, unknown culprits broke into the garage at the residence and removed a John Deer lawn tractor, a boat motor and a chain saw.
