Here is an account of my own experience with hospital-based blood tests. On Friday, Oct. 31 I went for a blood test at Gamma Dynacare in the Muskoka Medical Centre just before 4 p.m. At about 10 p.m. the same evening Huntsville District Memorial Hospital called. Being in bed, I did nothing. A few minutes later I decided I had better see what it was all about.
The hospital had phoned my neighbour, who was listed as a contact for me. He stated that he would be right over. We went to emergency and had no wait time because of my problem.
My question to the CEO and the ministry is: Would Gamma Dynacare testing have been this efficient? I think not. I have seen no figures on cost savings on this new deal. It seems to me if the new system was in place I would not be around to write this letter.
Would the CEO or the ministry care to comment or release the savings per test? Probably not.
I am recovering now, thanks to the promptness and excellent hospital and staff. Many thanks.
