Dwight News

The Veteran’s Wall committee would like to remind you to visit the library and check the Book of Remembrance for any errors or omissions before the final edition is printed this summer. The names and photos of many local veterans are already in the book and the committee has received more to be added. This is your chance to see that all photos and names are included.

The Lake of Bays Fire and Water Rescue committee and the volunteer firefighters invite everyone to see the new fireboat. It will be on display next Saturday, May 17 at the Dwight Shopping Plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tour the fireboat, see the equipment display, meet the firefighters and enjoy a barbecue lunch.

The next day, Sunday, May 18 a fundraising brunch will be held at Port Cunnington Lodge from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $23.95 for adults and $12 for children. Reservations are required. Call the lodge at 635-2505. All proceeds from this brunch will go toward onboard equipment for the fireboat.

There will be a spaghetti dinner at the Fellowship Hall of Pioneer Memorial United Church on Wednesday, May 21 beginning at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 per person and tickets can be obtained from the McDonalds at 635-2032. This dinner is sponsored by Noah’s Larks (singing group). Everyone is welcome.

The next meeting of the book club will be at the library on Tuesday, May 20 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The book to be discussed is All That Matters by Wayson Choy. Everyone is welcome at the book club.

Spring has come to Dwight. The trilliums are blooming, the Dwight Garden Centre has plants for sale, and Henrietta’s Bakery is open. Can summer be far away?

Many happy returns to Inez Gregory, John Gibson, Don Ross and Al McMullen, who are all celebrating birthdays this week.

Good luck to Vivian Stronach, who is having her second knee replacement today. I will have her telephone number at the hospital and the re-hab by tomorrow if anyone wishes to call her. Also the address where cards can be sent.

Tuesday night euchre results: women’s first, Marilyn Winterbottom; second, Lorna Wilks; men’s first, Lil Millar; second, Aubrey Cotton; lone hands, June Golding; 50/50 draw, Fran Gower and Lil Millar.

News may be sent to me at owlnst@vianet.ca or call 635-1743.
