Coming through: Senior Hoya Meg Nunn dribbles the ball past the Almaguin defender during her team’s 5-1 win in Muskoka-Parry Sound League action last week.

The Huntsville High School junior and senior girls’ soccer teams travelled to Almaguin Secondary school for their second regular season game on Thursday.

The juniors defeated the Almaguin team by a score of 4-0. Goals were scored by Robin Koch (2), Olivia Ross, and Rebecca Allen.

The senior team kept the ball in the Almaguin end for most of the game. They were victorious with a 5-1 score. Goalscorers for the senior Hoyas were Meg Wallace with two, Meg Nunn also with two, and Grace Wainman, who scored on a breakaway. One of Nunn’s goals was headed into the net off a corner kick from Meg Wallace.

Anthony Asturi, the senior team’s coach, has to run up to the Lookout two times at their next practice because of this goal. Asturi had told his players they weren’t heading the ball enough. He said if they scored on a headed ball, he would run up the lookout hill two times for each goal.

May 6 was the Hoya girls’ soccer teams’ season opener at Gravenhurst Secondary School.

The juniors played first and easily defeated the Gravenhurst squad in a 5-0 victory. The Hoya goals were scored by Ross (2), Olivia Tetreault, Kaitlyn MacKinnon, and Sarah Profitt on a penalty kick.

The senior Hoyas had an identical 5-0 result over the Gravenhurst senior team. The Hoyas dominated the play for most of the game. Goals came from Wallace (2), Shanda Koch (2), and Meg Knapton.

The Hoyas was scheduled to play at home against the St. Dominic’s team yesterday (Tuesday) and tomorrow against Parry Sound.
